Join us on September 11 - 14, 1997, and stay ahead of your competition - you cannot afford to miss it!

Message from President of IULTCS

Professor Tony Covington

It is my privilege to be President of IULTCS at the time of its Centenary. I am conscious of the responsibility of maintaining the chain of continuity from generation to generation of the leather scientists and technologists, so successfully accomplished by my illustrious predecessors. Those pioneers of the International union, would be very proud to know they created an organisation which has lasted for a hundred years. This Centenary is an opportunity for many of us to review the past, but it should also be a time to prepare for the next 100 years. The young leather scientists and technologists must be encouraged to participate in this congress, to learn from the senior and established people in the industry, to discuss scientific and technological developments in the best forum we have to offer and thereby have confidence to meet the challenges facing tanners. In this way, continuity in IULTCS will be best assured and the pace of technical change will not be diminished.

Message from Chairman of the Organising Committee

Mr John Tusting O.B.E.

The Council of the Society of Leather Technologists and Chemists appointed the committee to create a prestigious Centenary Congress, that will act as a significant milestone in the history of leather technology. Like all good milestones, the Congress will point the way forward, by covering critical issues such as: environmental impact and compatibility of wastes, improved tannery financial margins and return on capital, product performance and better control of tannery processes. There will be an exciting and interesting social programme, including visits to Leathersellers Hall, the Guildhall Library, Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and the Banqueting hall in Whitehall. This is a unique occasion, to celebrate the history of our industry, to discuss the new and developing technologies, to meet old friends and to have a good time in one of the most exciting cities in the world. I look forward to greeting you at the events we have arranged.
