Society of Leather Technologists and Chemists

Various grades of membership are available. Affiliate membership is open to those who are interested in the work of the Society, they are eligible to attend meetings and also receive the Journal. Those who have sufficient experience and qualifications may apply for Full Membership and then for one of the grades of Profesional Membership which rise to Fellowship of the Society (FSLTC). There are also grades available for students and retired members.

Applicants are requested to read the following information carefully before completing the form

1. This Application form is intended only for ordinary Membership - Affiliate (including students) and Members only. Applicants for Professional Grades are required to complete the special form provided for this purpose, copies of which are available from the Secretary and from Group or Section Secretaries.

2. According to the Articles of Association of the Society, any person who has shown an interest in the work of the Society may be considered for election as Affiliate. Applicants for Affiliateship need only complete parts A and C of the form, accompanied by the signature of one proposing Member with personal knowledge of the Applicant. In the case of Student Affiliateship the signature must be that of the course tutor and details of the course, and its duration must be provided.

3. Applicants for Ordinary Membership must also complete part B. Since Membership is dependent upon a combination of educational attainments and experience in the leather industry, it is essential that sufficient information is provided to enable Council to make a valid decision on each application. If the information provided is unclear or inadequate, such applications will be deemed to be Affiliateship. Applicants from outside the UK, Australia and South Africa, who may find difficulty in finding supporters for their application, may refer to the Secretary for the names of Members in their own country who could support their application or they may request the Secretary to forward their application form to named Members in the UK, to whom they may be known. In the absence of either of these possibilities, Council may be prepared to accept the signatures of Members of other constituent Societies of the IULTCS, who are not themselves Members of the SLTC, or signatures of employers (and former employers), College tutors and the like who are able to substantiate the accuracy of the information provided.

4. Affiliates and Ordinary Members have the same privileges of Membership except that Affiliates are not allowed to stand for any Office within the society or to vote at any Meeting, either in person or by proxy.

5. If required, Mutual Membership of the American Leather Chemists Association can be arranged for SLTC members upon filling in Part D of the form and upon payment of the additionally currently prescribed Mutual ALCA membership fee.

6. Upon completion, this form should be returned to the Secretary of the Society or to the Secretary of the South African or Australian Sections, for those applicants wishing to be also a Member of one of the Overseas Sections.

7. No application will be considered unless accompanied by the Membership fee currently in force. Fees are payable in sterling by cheques drawn on a UK Bank, except in the case of Applicants to Overseas Sections where the Section Treasurer will advise on the sum payable in local currency. If an application is rejected for any reason the sums paid will be returned.

8. To simplify administration, Journals to the date of the application will be sent to all Applicants on receipt of the appropriate fee, even though approval of the application may be delayed until the next Council Meeting. Applications received after the last Council Meeting in September will apply for the following year. Applications will be advised of the outcome of their application after the next Council Meeting following its receipt.

9. All information provided on the application form will be treated as confidential. The comments above are not intended to be a definitive interpretation of the rules of the Society.
